The GAS QUEEN
In the late 1960s middle of nowhere, a young woman runs out of gas on the way to a life-changing audition. Unfortunately for her, she stumbles upon a remote service station run by an egomaniacal attendant and her wheelchair-bound companion that offer fuel at a price much higher than cash. As a bizarre game unfolds the line between performance and punishment blurs in a twisted little tale of ambition, control, and the power of power.
Directors’ Statement:
A surreal southern gothic that’s a little bit Misery (1990), a little bit No Country for Old Men (2007), and a little bit Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017). Think of it as a Southern-fried episode of The Twilight Zone, a tight, tense morality tale dirty with roadside dust. This is a psychological approach to a backroad thriller, a tale of power imbalance led by commanding women as opposed to the rugged men fighting back against hillbilly killers often found in this sub-genre, especially those from the 1960s era.
